Tacomory

Highway 6 runs out of road at Tobermory, where the pavement ends at the ferry docks and the trailheads for Flowerpot Island. Tacomory works that last stretch — a taco truck that catches travellers heading out to the boats in the morning and feeds them again when they come back hungry. The order suits the town: handheld, quick, easy to read off a board, built for people moving through rather than settling in for a long dinner. Tobermory has had its taco truck since 2017, parked on the south gateway into town, and the menu has stayed short and disciplined enough to keep the window moving on a busy summer afternoon.

The board is built for fast decisions: tacos, bowls and burritos, nachos, a short kids list, and sides. Tacos come on six-inch flour tortillas — shredded chicken with pico and tacomory sauce, pork carnitas with pineapple salsa, an Aloha taco that folds shredded chicken into pineapple salsa and sour cream. The curried chickpea taco swaps the meat for chickpeas, red cabbage slaw, and a vegan cilantro lime sauce. The same fillings carry into the bowls and burritos — chicken, carnitas, or vegan chickpea — for anyone who wants a fork instead of a tortilla. Nachos take the flavours up to table size: the Tacomory Nachos layer chicken, queso cheese sauce, pico, green onions, and sour cream over chips, while the Nacho Joke build piles on salsa rojo and guacamole. Even the sides hold the theme, with chips run through four salsas or a double order of guacamole. The sauces do the connecting work, so a regular can follow a favourite from taco to bowl to nacho.
