About Us
Restaurantica is a Canadian restaurant-discovery platform — part editorial magazine, part structured local dining resource — built to help people find and enjoy the best places to eat across Canada. We publish original, magazine-style coverage of restaurants, neighbourhoods, and the dishes worth crossing town for, alongside practical, well-organized listings designed for the way Canadians actually decide where to eat.
Restaurantica is owned and operated by PointForm, Inc., an Ontario corporation located at 412 Laird Road, Guelph, ON N1G 3X7, Canada.
Our Mission
Deciding where to eat should be a pleasure, not a chore. Yet finding a genuinely good meal — somewhere with a point of view, run by people who care — often means wading through thin listings, look-alike roundups, and a wall of contradictory opinions that tell you everything except what a place is actually like.
Restaurantica exists to fix that. We help people discover restaurants worth their time and money: the neighbourhood institution that has quietly nailed the same dish for twenty years, the chef-owned room doing something ambitious, the tucked-away spot locals send visitors to. We cover the places, the dishes, and the people behind the food — and we put them in the context of the cities and neighbourhoods where you'll find them.
We are equal parts editorial magazine and structured dining resource — written for the realities of eating well in Canada, covering not just where to go, but what makes it worth going.
Built for Canadian Dining
Everything we publish is grounded in local context. Restaurantica is organized around Canadian cities, towns, and the neighbourhoods within them — because dining is local, and the right recommendation depends on knowing where you are.
This means:
- Real neighbourhood knowledge. We map the named dining and identity districts that locals actually reference — the strips, blocks, and pockets where a city's food culture lives — rather than treating a city as one undifferentiated map.
- Coverage beyond the big cities. Our coverage spans major metros and the dining and tourism towns that punch above their weight — wine-country tables, ski-town kitchens, cottage-country and lakeside rooms, and heritage main streets worth a detour. Great food isn't only found downtown in the largest cities.
- Local detail that matters. Hours, location, price range, signature dishes, and the character of a place — the practical and the atmospheric — described so you know what to expect before you go.
- A national resource, built carefully. We are expanding city by city and region by region, with the same standards applied everywhere, so that a recommendation in a small town is held to the same bar as one in a major centre.
This local-first approach is fundamental to who we are, not an afterthought.
A Celebration, Not a Scoreboard
Restaurantica is a positive-first publication. Our editorial coverage is about places worth recommending — written in the voice of a well-travelled friend who has been there and wants you to have a great meal.
We are not in the business of takedowns, pile-ons, or arbitrating disputes. There are plenty of places online to air a grievance about a bad night out; that is not what we do. When we write about a restaurant, it is because there is something genuinely worth telling you about it. If a place isn't worth recommending, we simply don't cover it.
That doesn't mean we are uncritical or undiscerning — it means our editorial energy goes into helping you find the good, described honestly and specifically, rather than ranking the bad.
Trust-First Publishing
We believe that long-term trust is more valuable than short-term revenue. This principle shapes every editorial decision we make.
Restaurants cannot pay for editorial coverage. Whether and how we cover a restaurant is an editorial decision, full stop. No restaurant can buy a write-up, a more favourable description, or placement within our editorial content. If a restaurant is featured, it is because our editorial process determined it was worth featuring.
Advertising is clearly labelled. Restaurantica carries advertising, and some links — such as links to reserve a table or place an order through a partner — may earn us a commission. Advertising and sponsored placements are always identified as such and kept distinct from our editorial coverage. For more detail on how we earn revenue, see our How Restaurantica Works page.
Claiming a listing is free and doesn't buy influence. Restaurant owners can claim their listing and keep their information current at no cost. Claiming or updating a listing helps us keep details accurate — it does not purchase editorial coverage or change how we write about a place.
We prioritize accuracy and correct our mistakes. Restaurant details change constantly. When something is wrong or out of date, we want to know, and we fix it. We welcome feedback from diners and restaurant owners alike. For more detail on our standards and corrections process, see our Editorial Standards.
What We Cover
Restaurantica is an editorial platform first. We publish original content across the things that help people eat well in Canada.
- Restaurant overviews. In-depth, magazine-style profiles that tell you what a place is, what it does well, and why it's worth knowing — grounded in real detail rather than generic praise.
- The people behind the food. Where there's a story worth telling — a chef's path, an owner's history, the origins of a dish — we tell it. Good restaurants are made by people, and that context is part of what makes a recommendation worth trusting.
- Neighbourhood and city guides. Curated guides to local dining districts and the places worth knowing within them, so you can find your bearings in a new part of town or a new city entirely.
- Signature dishes and specials. The dishes a place is known for, and the specials worth showing up for — because sometimes you're not choosing a restaurant so much as chasing a particular plate.
- Dining culture. The context that makes a scene make sense: the cuisines, traditions, and local character that shape how and where Canadians eat.
Our Editorial Standards
Restaurantica holds its editorial content to a clear, published set of standards covering how we choose what to cover, how we research it, how we handle accuracy and corrections, the separation of our editorial and commercial work, and our transparent use of AI tools in research.
We encourage you to read our Editorial Standards in full. They are the commitment behind everything we publish.
Our Approach to AI
Restaurantica uses artificial intelligence tools as part of our research and editorial workflow, and we believe in being transparent about it.
AI helps us organize research, gather and cross-reference details, and maintain consistency across a growing library of coverage that spans the country. These tools allow us to cover more places, in more communities, with greater depth than would otherwise be possible.
AI does not replace editorial judgement, and it does not decide what we publish or how we write about a place. Our editorial standards, our voice, and our final review are human. We verify details, and we hold every piece to the same bar before it goes live. For more detail on how AI fits into our process, see our Editorial Standards.
A Long-Term Resource
Restaurantica is not a short-term project. We are building a long-term publishing platform designed to grow alongside Canada's dining scenes.
This means continuously expanding our coverage across cities, towns, and neighbourhoods; keeping listings and editorial current as restaurants open, change, and evolve; and improving the resource over time based on what diners and restaurant owners tell us. We aim to be a place Canadians return to whenever they want to eat well — not just today, but for years to come.
What We Are Not
To be clear about our scope:
- We are not a restaurant, and we do not take reservations or orders ourselves. Restaurantica is a publisher and discovery platform. Where we link to a reservation, ordering, or delivery partner, your transaction is with that partner and the restaurant — not with Restaurantica.
- We are not a complaints or dispute-resolution service. We do not arbitrate disagreements between diners and restaurants. If you had a problem at a restaurant, the right place to resolve it is with the restaurant directly.
- We do not provide professional advice. Our content is for general informational purposes. Menu, ingredient, and dietary information is provided for guidance only — if you have a food allergy or specific dietary requirement, always confirm details directly with the restaurant before ordering.
- A listing is not an endorsement of safety or quality. We work to keep information accurate, but inclusion on the Site is not a guarantee of any particular experience. We encourage you to confirm important details, such as hours and reservations, directly with the restaurant.
