The kitchen folds homemade Greek touches into an otherwise Canadian breakfast-and-lunch lineup, so a single table can land on French toast or on grilled halloumi without turning a page. The initials say what the restaurant is after: M.E.K. stands for Morning, Eggs, and Koffee, a name that ties the whole operation to the first half of the day. It runs on Hurontario Street in downtown Collingwood, Tuesday through Sunday, dark on Mondays.

The comfort core is direct. Breakfast Poutine is its fullest expression — home fries buried under bacon, sausage, onions, cheddar, hollandaise, and two eggs, a breakfast plate rebuilt as one loaded order. The Breakfast Sammy compresses the same instinct into a handheld: brioche, a scrambled egg patty, bacon, sausage, cheddar, caramelized onions, and chipotle mayo. Around those two sit the anchors a serious breakfast menu is expected to carry — bennies, a vegetable omelette, blueberry pancakes, French toast — and a lunch register that brings in avocado toast, the M.E.K. Bowl, a B.L.T., fresh-cut fries, and the M.E.K. Burger for tables that have crossed into the afternoon. The Benedict and pancake side leans traditional; the handhelds and the burger carry the crowd that arrives once the morning thins out.

Read together, the menu argues for range without losing its centre. Montreal-style bagels come out daily — plain, sesame, everything, blueberry, asiago — paired with house whipped cream cheeses, bagel sandwiches, and a composed Lox Bagel Sandwich built on smoked salmon, tomato, a caper-and-lemon cream cheese, and pickled red onion. This side works more as a takeout lane than a sit-down one: phone and email preorders carry it, and any order past two dozen is meant to be arranged a day ahead. Cream cheese tubs and larger bagel runs travel well, which is part of why the program reads as deliberate rather than a sideline. For an office breakfast or a weekend group pickup, the Bagel Bar does work the dining room on its own could not.

MEK opened on Hurontario Street in 2022, in Collingwood's downtown heritage district, and it has held to the daytime hours it set for itself — eight in the morning to three in the afternoon, six days a week, with a kids' menu and fresh-squeezed orange juice on hand for the families who fill those mornings. The Greek inheritance never hardens into a theme; it stays a thread, surfacing in a yogurt bowl or a wedge of halloumi and then stepping back to let the bacon and hollandaise carry the plate. The clearest way to read it is the first order placed at the table: the poutine for a full plate, the Sammy for a handheld, the Bagel Bar for the road.
